Our veterinarian at Fort Hunt Animal Hospital in Alexandria offers pet microchipping for dogs and cats and giving your pet a permanent form of identification is only one of the benefits.
When you decide to get your pet microchipped at our vet clinic, you can be assured that the microchip will last your pet’s entire life. This is because microchips do not contain any power sources. Instead, the chip work with RFID technology. When your pet is scanned, the chip emits a radio frequency that transmits the unique ID of the chip.
When your pet is located, all the rescuer has to do is take your pet to a veterinarian, shelter or rescue and request that your pet scanned. The scanner will display the chip’s unique identifier code. Once the code is known, the manufacturer can be called and given the unique identifier. That identifier is connected to a database with your contact information. The customer service representative will get the rescuer’s information then call you to let you know that your pet has been found so that you can be reunited.
When your pet becomes lost, all you have to do is call the microchip company to report your pet missing. The company will send fliers to all the local shelters, vet clinics and rescues within a certain mileage from your home. The flier will contain your pet’s picture and a phone number to call is anyone locates your pet.

I have been using Ft. Hunt Animal Hospital for about 30 years and have always found the doctors and staff to be very caring. I appreciate the time spent explaining specific findings and answering questions. I never feel rushed.
