Our Veterinarians

Jerry Hinn, DVM
Jerry Hinn, DVM

Owner

Dr. Hinn is a Virginia native and received his DVM degree from the University of Georgia. His special interests include surgery, veterinary dentistry, birds, and exotic pet care as well as that of cats and dogs. Another strong interest that he has developed is that of nutrition and vitamin supplementation. In addition to local and national veterinary associations, he is a member of the Critical Care Society, the American Veterinary Dental Association, and the National Veterinary Disaster Relief Association.

Veterinarian

Dr. Davis is one of our expert Alexandria veterinarians at Fort Hunt Animal Hospital. She helps pet owners understand what a procedure is and why it is being done, and she takes the time to make your pets comfortable at every visit.

Lelis Gómez, DVM
Lelis Gómez, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Gomez was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She came to the US in high school, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Florida International University. She later attended Ross University in Saint Kitts and Nevis before being accepted into Texas A&M Veterinary School, where she finished her last year of clinical rotations. Dr. Gomez became a mom in 2021 and is loving every aspect of it. She enjoys watching movies, traveling and going to museums and artisan markets with her husband and her daughter. She has two dogs, Broly, a Yorkie, and Cortana, a ‘Coconut retriever’ who she rescued from Saint Kitts. (Fear Free Certified)

Olivia Gordon, DVM
Olivia Gordon, DVM

Veterinarian

Olivia Gordon was born and raised in the St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands. Following graduation, she attended Iowa State University, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Gordon attended Ross University to pursue her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and completed her clinical year at North Carolina State University in 2021. Her interests include preventative care, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery, In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, working out, and spending time with her husband, son, and friends. She has two golden retrievers named Bleu and Teddy.

Florence McAvoy, VMD
Florence McAvoy, VMD

Veterinarian

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Dr. McAvoy completed her undergraduate studies at Penn State University and received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She spent the early years of her career as a mixed animal veterinarian in South Central PA, working with cattle, swine, sheep, goats, dogs, and cats. Dr. McAvoy moved to Northern Virginia in 2017 and now works exclusively with dogs and cats. She enjoys yoga, running, and reading. She and her husband share the house with a fluffy kitty and her in-laws’ dog that frequently visits for extended stays. Whenever she travels, she tries to play bar trivia and seeks out local ice cream shops that represent the area.

Veterinarian

Dr. Perez was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2023 after completing her clinical year at the Texas A&M University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Her veterinary interests include senior pet care, ultrasound, and cardiology. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and crocheting. She has 2 cats, Strudel and Bennie, who she adopted during veterinary school. She is best known for her sense of humor.

Jessica D, LVT

Hospital Manager

Jessica has been with Fort Hunt Animal Hospital since 2014. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Mary Washington and her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology from NOVA Community College. Her main interests are radiology, dentistry, and exotic and pocket pets. Her favorite thing about Fort Hunt is all the different personalities she gets to work with and how everyone gets along so well. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, talking all things Disney, and trying new craft beers. Her own pets include a pug named Leeloo, a three-legged cat, Enzo, and a corn snake, Korben. (Fear Free Certified)

Assistant Hospital Manager

Originally from Texas, Kelly joined the Fort Hunt team in 2017 as a receptionist and then transitioned to her current position in 2024. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her wife, listening to true crime podcasts, building Lego sets, and taking care of their menagerie of animals, which includes a dog, a cat, two guinea pigs, a corn snake, a bearded dragon, an African side-neck turtle, and a hedgehog.

Malcolm M, LVT

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Malcolm began at Fort Hunt working in the kennel and moved up to become a vet assistant, then further to a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Malcolm received his A.A.S in Veterinary Technology from NOVA Community College in 2022. He also earned a B.S. in Cinema Studies with a minor in music production. At Fort Hunt, he enjoys building relationships with clients and being very hands-on in order to learn as much as possible. He hopes to one day gain his Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in Diagnostic Imaging. In his spare time, he plays five instruments, including the piano, and he enjoys singing, producing electronic music, and playing timpani in community orchestra. (Fear Free Certified)

Trinity B

LVT Student

Trinity is currently enrolled in Penn Foster to become a licensed veterinary technician. Her favorite interests are parasitology and surgery. She previously majored in psychology and became a certified vet assistant while also volunteering for the Humane Society. In her free time, Trinity cuddles up with her her Pomeranian, Meelo, and enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling. (Fear Free Certified)

Carly joined the Fort Hunt team in 2022 as a vet assistant and quickly fell in love with the field. She is currently enrolled in NOVA’s Veterinary Technician Program and is set to graduate in 2025. Carly has always been interested in medicine due to her own chronic illnesses, and her love of animals eventually led her to the veterinary field, where she is able to combine her passion for medicine and animal care. Her special interests include emergency and critical care, pathology, radiology, and surgery. When she is not at work or school, Carly enjoys crocheting, watching storm chasing, reading medical literature, singing, and spending time with her Service Dog, Sarge. (Fear Free Certified)

Co-Kennel Manager/Veterinary Assistant

Monica is one of our senior assistants as well as co-kennel manager. She enjoys fostering and rehabilitating dogs and has a foster fail of her own. She specializes in medical grooming, especially sedated shaving. She takes pride in her Fear Free techniques and her ability to help nervous pups gain confidence. In her free time, she enjoys a glass of wine while working on a puzzle or binge-watching Netflix. She also enjoys going to concerts, sporting events, and fun mommy and daughter dates with her little one. (Fear Free Certified)

Veterinary Assistant

Roxan has been with Fort Hunt Animal Hospital for 35 years. She grew up in Alexandria, VA, and graduated from Mount Vernon HS. She has multiple animals of her own including her dogs, Sydnee and Saint, several cats, and some birds. She takes a special interest in the fat or angry cats that come into the hospital. She also enjoys helping out with all senior pets. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games and adding to her Snoopy collection. (Fear Free Certified)

Emma grew up in Alexandria and has an Animal Science degree from Purdue University. She started working at Fort Hunt during the fall of 2020. She has two devilish toy poodles named Juniper and Doyle, whom she loves dearly. She enjoys cooking, going to the Kennedy Center, and seeing stand-up comedy.

Veterinary Assistant

Emily has worked at Fort Hunt since the summer of 2021. She is currently enrolled with Penn Foster in their veterinary technician program. Her favorite appointment types are dermatology cases, specifically dirty, nasty ears! She also enjoys the comradery of her coworkers and seeing all the cute doggies that come in. In her free time, she likes to travel, see concerts, try new foods, and hang out with her 2 dogs, a Maltipoo named Benny, and a Pomeranian named Gio. (Fear Free Certified)

Veterinary Assistant

Gaby started working at Fort Hunt in the spring of 2021. She soon came to find that she loved the field and was accepted to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the summer of 2024. She will start classes in the spring of 2025. She enjoys watching surgeries and she hopes to study to become a veterinarian with a specialty in zoo animals. In her free time, she enjoys taking care of her own dogs, Suky and Pepper. She is also fluent in Spanish and enjoys working with our Spanish-speaking clients.

Veterinary Assistant

Sarah is new to the veterinary field and in the early stages of Veterinary Technician School. She is a military spouse, originally from San Diego California. She previously volunteered at an animal rescue in Guam, fostering and working at the spay/neuter clinic. She is enjoying working at Fort Hunt with fellow animal lovers. She owns two German Shepherds of her own and is a musical theater lover.

Veterinary Assistant

Narda has been with Fort Hunt since 2021. Originally from San Diego, CA, she came to work at Fort Hunt after serving for a period in the US Army. She especially likes working with the variety of different dog breeds we see here and just learning new things every day. She currently enjoys travelling and spending time with her significant other and her dogs, a labradoodle named Nala, and an English bulldog named Darby.

Veterinary Assistant

Shanya began her career at Fort Hunt in 2022. She has always wanted to work with animals but finds wildlife to be the most interesting. She eventually hopes to one day move into large animal and equine medicine. She enjoys getting to know all the cute pets that come in as well as getting to know her coworkers. She likes to go to concerns whenever possible and spending time with her Rat Terrier, Scooby.

Kenia was born in El Salvador and grew up in the Mount Vernon area. She started at Fort Hunt as a kennel assistant in 2021 and was quickly moved up to veterinary assistant. She enjoys learning about everything and anything that comes in the hospital, and is constantly interested in each new pet that comes through our doors. She eventually aspires to go to school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She is a big fan of all cats, but especially the multitude of tuxedo cats we have as hospital cats here at Fort Hunt. She has two cats of her own, her fur-baby Michi, and Ollie who adopted her as his person.

Veterinary Assistant

Stephanie started at Fort Hunt in early 2023. She is a native Alexandrian and was interested in pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine. She is currently enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College and hopes to get an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology one day. She really enjoys learning about the pets that we see and making them and their humans feel better about coming in. When not at work, Stephanie enjoys doing her nails, reading, and teaching her dogs to do tricks. She has a little Chihuahau girl and a sweet little Shorkie-poo boy. She hopes all of our clients know that they are in good hands with her.

Veterinary Assistant

Raphy is relatively new to the veterinary field, having started at Fort Hunt in late 2023. He grew up in nearby Accokeek, MD, and has a BS in Health and Human Services. He finds it very rewarding to help clients and their pets every day and hopes to potentially pursue a career as a veterinarian or get his Master’s in Speech Language Pathology. In his spare time, he enjoys making videos and being a multi-instrumentalist. He can play the drum, trumpet, and tuba and hopes to pick up the guitar. He doesn’t currently have any pets, but he can often be seen catering to our hospital cats.

Veterinary Assistant

Arnetta joined the Fort Hunt team in early 2024. From the Alexandria area, she was excited to learn all the about the world of veterinary medicine. She is eager to grow in this field and hopes to become a veterinary technician one day. Outside the hospital, she enjoys playing with her Labrador retriever, Rose, and her pit bull, Coco, and learning how to crochet. A fun fact about Arnetta is that she has an identical twin!

Cierra is new to Fort Hunt but has been around animals most of her life. She graduated from Radford University with a BS in Biology. She enjoys getting to meet all the cute animals that come through our door. One day, she hopes to become a scientific illustrator. In her free time, she can be found drawing, playing video games, and working on her small charm/tattoo design business. She also has two pets of her own, a cat named Milo and a dog named Margo.

Receptionist

Born and raised in Southern California, Verena moved to Virginia in 2015 and joined the Fort Hunt family in July 2018. While she began working here with no pets, she soon rescued her first of many black cats, Katinka. Outside of work she enjoys walking, hiking, camping, visiting museums, watching movies, and enjoying the antics of her current black cats, Cleo and Clare.

Erin has been on our receptionist team since 2018. At Fort Hunt, she enjoys learning something new everyday and getting to interact with all the animals that come in. Assistant Kennel Manager

Tray has worked at Fort Hunt since the winter of 2022. He really enjoys bonding with animals boarding here and making them feel as comfortable as they can be. He tries to ensure all pets staying with us are given individual attention to their needs. Tray has a green and yellow parakeet named after the spicy sushi sauce, Wasabi.
